Meet The Counselor

My name is Alli Swift and I am the owner of The Counseling Umbrella, located in Portland, OR. I was born and raised in Portland OR, and love this city for providing me with the opportunity to support the mental health of those in my community. I have a Master’s degree in Professional Mental Health Counseling from Lewis & Clark College, and have spent most of my clinical hours working with adolescents and young adults around issues of anxiety, self image, trauma, relational dynamics and other life stressors.

I started my practice based on my commitment for helping people along on their journey towards increased self-worth, self-awareness and self-love. My aim has always been to create an inclusive and safe space- all are welcome here! Together we will work to establish how therapy can be most beneficial for you- and share in a process of growth & understanding.

My approach to counseling rests on my belief that the therapeutic relationship is central to client growth and change. Creating a space of safety, trust and unconditional positive regard for the client guides all of my interactions and interventions.

My core belief around counseling is that relationships are central to a client's life and well-being, and that identifying where we can build up and promote healthy relationships and interactions within our world leads to an increase in our mental health.

One of the most common things I see when people start thinking about their mental health is this imposter syndrome of “my stuff isn’t important enough to look at.” It is my absolute belief that everyone is worthy of time and space to process their world. We all have stuff. We all need space to be heard and work to make the healthiest decisions we can for ourselves.
